This applies to both temporary and permanent protection visas under the humanitarian stream for eligible applicants. The Refugee and Humanitarian Migration Programs are designed for people who are in need of protection.
Refugee Visas are for people who had fled their home country, escaping persecution because of race, religion, nationality, membership of particular social group or their political opinion and it’s unsafe for them to return. Applicants under this visa category must either apply through United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) or directly to the Australian embassy.
Humanitarian Visa applicants must be proposed by a relative or friend who’s already an Australian citizen or permanent resident living in Australia, or by an eligible community organization in Australia.
This visa class is also available to immediate family members of people who have migrated to Australia under the Refugee or Humanitarian Program.
