There are two classes of Australian Migration programs; Migration and Humanitarian programs.

Under the Migration program, there are 3 categories as follows:
- Family migration, people that were sponsored by a relative who’s already an Australian citizen or a permanent resident.
- Skilled migration, are for people with particular business or work skills or ‘outstanding talents’ and has a separate quota for states or territories with particular skill shortages.
- Special eligibility migration, are former citizens or residents that wish to return to Australia and stay here permanently.
